Fluoride
Fluoride is a mineral that helps teeth against tooth decay protecting them from cavities. Using fluoride is considered important for having healthy and strong teeth. You can find it in toothpaste, water, food, rocks, air, soil and plants.
Dentist recommend the used of fluoride because it attacks the acid of the mouth from sugars and plaque bacteria, preventing tooth decay. If you visit your dentist he/she may apply fluoride to your teeth in a higher volume compared to the ones found in commercial products such as mouth rinse or toothpaste.
Fluoride helps prevent cavities in two different ways:
- Concentrates in the growing bones and developing teeth, helping to harden the enamel on baby and adult teeth before they emerge.
- Helps to harden the enamel on adult teeth that have already emerged
